Newsletter Publication # 17 (April 2008)
As spring time approaches many of us feel the urge to throw open the windows and invite the fresh clean spring air into our homes while we clean from top to bottom and remove all the old comforts and debris of the long winter hibernation. But I have come to realize from one of my friends that there is another kind of Spring rejuvenation technique that will energize your whole outlook physically and mentally. Many television shows have found great success on the subject and smart, successful woman have learned this years ago. The common term used for this process is called a "Make-over"; I am calling it a "Reinvention". Here is my suggestion on how you can start your own Reinvention. Step 1: Shop Shop Shop (notice I am not saying Buy Buy Buy) Go out and look around at the various fashions available in the stores, note the seasons colors and pay close attention to items that catch your eye. What is it about the cut, color or style that appeals to you? Buy the latest fashion magazines and tear out pictures of clothing that appeal to you, then try to find styles similar to the color and cut of the fashions that caught your eye. Also, look around you when you go shopping at the mall and see what other women are wearing that you think looks stylish. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so don't be shy to ask someone where they got those shoes or dress, and definitely ask a woman what fragrance she is wearing, then go and test it on yourself. I get asked all the time about my Nougat London Tuberose and Jasmine Perfume and I am always happy to share my secrets. Visit beauty consultants at Nordstroom and Sephora, the staff are very well trained and will be more than happy to schedule a make-up consultation to help you choose new colors to compliment your skin tones. Have a few make over's with various consultants and learn new ways to enhance your best features. Rome was not built in a day, so it may take a few visits to complete the Shopping around Step, but pay attention and make notes, this is important ground work. Step 2: This step should be done before taking the plunge and it is a good way to make sure you do not make mistakes. Get referrals for hair stylist's, try asking your friend who always looks like she just came from the hair salon even though its 6am in the morning. The best way to choose a hair stylist is to judge their creations, go out and find someone who has a healthy and beautiful head of hair, think of it as a sure bet that you will not walk out with dry or damaged hair. My good friend travels 1 hour and 25 minutes from San Diego to Orange County every six weeks for a hair cut that is way more expensive than Super Cuts, but value for money when you see the results. I went along on one of her many pilgrimages to Orange County and after one appointment with her stylist I could see why my friend commutes this long distance, I received compliments for weeks after my initial hair cut. If you live near Orange County and would like to visit this talented woman you can contact Nirvana Salon at (714) 953-4100 and ask for Janelle. Please do not got to Super Cuts for a totally new hair style, I am not saying that they are bad, quite the contrary, if you need a quick trim or an urgent styling for a last minute function, then Super Cuts is fantastic and you can not beat the price! What I am talking about is a reinvention of your look not a quick trim. Also, remember to consider the functionality of your hair style, consider the time you have available to do your hair, bear in mind that you will need to devote some time to keep your hair looking beautiful. Consider also the cost of maintaining a color that is very different from your natural color, if it is not in your budget to touch up the roots every 6 week then try to go for something simple like sun streaks that will not be too obvious as the hair grows out. Step 3: Buy Buy Buy and simultaneously Donate Donate or Toss. Now go and make it happen. On the big day kiss the hubby and children good bye and maybe take a photo with them before you leave. Start with your hair, have the appointment early so you can get out in time to visit Sephora for a scheduled make-up consultation. After your make-up is done head to the stores to splurge on the new look that you have been envisioning. The idea is to go try on fashions with your hair and make-up done so you can get a full picture of how you are going to look and feel in the outfits. Onetime, I tried on a colorful dress shirt and thought, "Gosh I look horrible in this", but it was Saturday morning, my hair was tied up in a pony and I had no make-up on, so of course it did not look right to have this beautiful dress shirt mismatched with my boring hair and pale face. When you return from the stores get rid of the old tattered clothes and donate those items of clothing that will not fit into your new wardrobe. Old clothes are like a bad habit, you need to get rid of them completely to avoid falling back into the outdated look you feel so comfortable with. Do not forget to replace your lingerie as well. There is nothing more depressing than throwing on a gorgeous new silk dress over an old, stretched cotton bra. Please visit Victoria's Secret and have yourself measured for the perfect size bra and definitely invest in a camisole with built in support, this is a must have lingerie item that will come in handy more than you will know, if you do not already own one. A Reinvention is meant to make you feel alive and new again. It should excite you and be the coming of a new age for your life. Listen to the experts and get their advice or suggestions, they have their finger on the pulse all the time since it is their business to know what about the latest trends and techniques. Inside...Out. Look around at the women who are laughing and having a good time. They look healthy and well groomed, it does not necessarily mean that they are economically better off. When you look good physically you feel good mentally. So taking care of your body is equally important, exercising and eating healthy will work wonders for your complexion and body. Drink plenty of water and protect your skin when going out in the sun, you will reap the rewards later on in life by taking care of yourself now.
It took Wendy about a month to convince me to try the product, and after sending me some samples I was still skeptical. The first week, which they call the cleansing week was excruciating, I did not realize how bad my digestive system was. But after a week I noticed my energy levels were higher, my complexion and skin tone was looking healthier and I was feeling better. I signed up immediately and I have been taking my Juice Plus everyday for 6 months now. My children eat the gummies and love them, but more than this I am glad that even when we are on the run and do not have time to sit down and eat a healthy cooked meal, at least everyone is still getting their fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Wendy was extremely knowledgeable about the product and her service is fantastic, I get my juice plus replenished well before my supply runs out and Wendy is always sending me little updates and interesting information about studies currently being done on Juice Plus. If you would like more information about this excellent product, please visit www.jpwendy.com or contact Wendy Harris on (305) 877-0345 or e-mail: jpwharris@yahoo.com Skin care tip. Since our theme is Reinvention, there is one more important subject that needs to be covered in order to ensure success and happiness with the new you. Bad skin care habits or the lack thereof. It is important to cleanse, tone and moisturize your face every morning and night, do not forget to treat your neck area the same way you treat your face. Exfoliate your skin once a week to encourage regeneration and remove old dead layers, this will also allow your moisturizers to be properly absorbed. Always use a good eye cream no matter what your age. Never go to sleep with make-up on and always use a good sunscreen when you go out into the sun. If you can afford to, try and visit a spa for a facial and massage at least twice a year, preferably every two months. You can tell the difference between a woman who visits a spa and one who does not, the investment is worth every penny and you deserve it.
Since not much happens in April (besides the silliness of April Fools Day) I have decided that the month of April should be the month of being positively constructive. Whether it is conducting the annual Spring Cleaning in the home, or Reinventing your look for the rest of the year. No matter what you choose to do, make this the month of finding Happiness from the inside out. If you have any Reinvention stories you might like to share and do not mind having it published in next months newsletter, then I would love to hear from you. Your feedback is always welcome and appreciated. Happy Reinventing!
